The bleary eyed RS500 fleet arrived in time for a 9am start and 22 knots of wind only to be told it was two windy for the RS500s but the Teras were allowed out to play.
Needless to say this up set one or two RS500 sailors, namely all the Brits (some nursing hangovers the Sweds, Germans, Polish and the Dutch, some of the Italians were miffed. Some of the Italians wimped out.
When the class rep eventually managed to talk sense into the committee we got on the water and after some procrastination with marks we got started, only to have to abandon some 30mins later as the leeward mark was making good speed for Venice and the wind died.
After lunch the committee were determined to make amends for their earlier embarrassment took the fleet on a 40minute sail to the far side to the lake, then after the customary 60 minute procrastination with the course we got started in a steady 12 knots.
Brian and Alex in GBR 799 were determined to show the Italians they could do it in light winds as well as string winds and held a commanding lead from the start, this remained unchallenged till the finish where they crossed the line and turned to wonder where the rest of us had go to, 2nd went to ITA 811 and third to ITA 814.
The second race was a much closer affair, a hand full of boats were called OCS but all Italian so none went back. An Italian boat lead around the first mark but Brian and Alex battled hard down wind and never looked back. GBR 799 took first, ITA 811 took second again and ITA 812 took third.
The wind stayed in for the third race and the fleet bunched up as the cliffs were not paying and the wind was even across the course. This made for an interesting first mark with boats coming in on port and starboard shouting and waving in a variety of languages. Brian and Alex in GBR 799 tussled with Ruggero and Giacomo in ITA 811 but it all went wrong for the Italians and they finished in 4th while Brian and Alex finished in first.
