Championships are remembered for far more than the racing.
The 2027 RS500 European Championship aims to deliver a week that combines outstanding competition on the water with a relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere ashore.
The Royal Southern Yacht Club is renowned for its hospitality. From the moment competitors arrive, teams can enjoy first-class facilities, comfortable surroundings and the warm welcome for which the Club has become famous. Its modern clubhouse, riverside terraces, restaurant and bar provide the perfect setting to unwind after racing while enjoying spectacular views across the River Hamble.
The Perfect Place to Relax
Following each day’s racing, sailors, families and supporters will be able to enjoy:

Whether you’re discussing the day’s tactics, catching up with old friends or making new ones, the Royal Southern provides an atmosphere that is both relaxed and genuinely welcoming.
The Hamble Experience
The River Hamble is one of Europe’s most famous sailing destinations.
Just a short walk from the Club are waterside cafés, restaurants, pubs and marinas, while nearby Southampton and Portsmouth offer extensive shopping, accommodation and transport links. Many competitors choose to extend their stay to explore the Solent, the New Forest and England’s south coast.

Cowes Week +1
The European Championship takes place immediately after Cowes Week, allowing competitors travelling from overseas to enjoy two of Britain’s premier sailing events within one visit.
Many sailors plan their holidays around this unique opportunity, combining world-class racing with everything the Solent has to offer both on and off the water.
More Than a Championship
Our goal is simple: to create a European Championship that competitors will remember long after the final race.
Exceptional racing, outstanding hospitality, lasting friendships and one of the finest yacht clubs in Europe combine to create an event worthy of the RS500 class.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Royal Southern Yacht Club in 2027.
Prince Philip Yacht Haven
The Royal Southern’s own Prince Philip Yacht Haven is one of the most prominent assets the Club has to offer, with power, water and easy access to the clubhouse. Should any families or crews wish to arrive by yacht (Cowes Week is the week before the RS500 regatta), the Royal Southern has extended an invitation to berth in the marina during their time at this prime location. Details about berthing costs and booking options follow in due course.
Limited Onsite Accommodation
Within the 18th Century listed cottages overlooking the River Hamble, there are eleven bedrooms and one master suite with modern technology and elegance, they still retain the classic charm of the original 18th Century Club House.
