Originally established in Southampton in 1837, under the name of the Royal Southampton Yacht Club, the club has been at the heart of British yachting throughout its history. 

Since the Second World War the Club has sat on the banks of the beautiful River Hamble, just minutes from the world-famous waters of the Central Solent. With its exceptional facilities it has developed an international reputation for first-class regattas.

Home of World-Class Racing

The Royal Southern is recognised throughout the sailing world for delivering professional race management and has welcomed competitors   from around the   globe. Every season the Club hosts national championships, international classes, IRC racing, offshore events and major keelboat regattas, all supported by experienced race officers and an its knowledgeable volunteers. 

In 2027, our RS500 European Championship immediately follows Cowes Week, allowing many visiting sailors to experience two iconic events during one unforgettable sailing trip.

The Solent – Britain’s Premier Racing Arena

With the race week date set for the most appropriate week of tides and dates, competitors can expect tactical racing with varied wind conditions and changing tidal strategies. Few sailing venues can match the challenge and variety offered by the Solent.

The River Hamble offers easy access to the championship race area at Hill Head Plateau some 20 to 25 minutes after leaving the slipway.
