Results / RS400 & RS800 Spring Championship, rescheduled RS700 2024 Inlands, and RS200 EaSEA Tour (Sat only for RS200s) Queen Mary SC - 15/03/2025

Four 200’s descended onto Queen Mary Sailing Club for the open meeting on the 15^th March, the forecast wind was for 9 to 12 from the North so cold! It turned out the mean was a little more than forecast, and the shifts. Well, they were up to 80 degrees, this ensured decision making was a bit of a lottery 😊

Race 1

The 4 boats were to be found at the favoured pin end, and with a long line you would think there would be plenty of room, but no! a big shift in the last 10 seconds forced 2 boats to gybe out to restart at the back of the fleet, while James Morson and Fiona Harrington making the most of the shift sailed into the sunset, the racing behind was tight Paul and Peter Smalley managed to keep the 2 other boats behind to take 2nd from Mike Warwicker and Fitzsimmons 3rd, Tim Palmer and Elizabeth Culwick 4^th

Race 2 and it was all change,

Tim and Elizabeth chose the right side off the beat and held the lead to the end pipping Mike and Kate by a nose! With our first race winner James and Fiona sneaking past Paul and Peter (4^th) on the last run to take 3^rd.

So, after 2 races it was anyone’s regatta with 2pts. separating the 4 boats,

Race 3 and it was Paul and Peter who got the shifts right and held onto take the win they needed James and Fiona to finish 3^rd or worse to take the title, and with positions changing all the time it wasn’t until the final lap that James and Fiona managed to hang onto 2^nd place to give them the title, Mike and Kate were 3^rd from Tim and Elizabeth

Well done to James Morson and Fiona Harrington on taking the regatta win.

And a special mention must go to young Peter Smalley, sailing with dad Paul just missing out on a regatta win by 1 point.
