Melbourne Worlds, 2016
We have some very exciting news about a forthcoming event. The RS100 and RS200 World Championships are being hosted by the Melbourne Fleet in late January 2016.
The Melbourne Fleets are based at the Royal Brighton and Black Rock Yacht Clubs on Port Phillip Bay. Melbourne, the capital of Victoria, South Eastern Australia, is an easy, multicultural, cosmopolitan city with a range of activities to entertain - from world class sporting events to galleries and museums, fashion to fine dining - all easily accessible to the Yacht Club, and affordable. Melbourne is known as the cultural, sporting and fashion capital of Australia.
Melbourne Fleet is very proud of the quality of racing they have and the quality of
regattas they host. The regatta will find us:
- Sailing on World Class sailing waters, with ideal sailing conditions within close
proximity to the Clubhouse and marina facilities.
- Racing under the management of World Class and experienced Race Managers.
- Using excellent club facilities include café/restaurant, gym and sauna.
- Able to come before and stay after the regatta.
- Having lots of accommodation and dining options within close proximity.
The RS Class Association and RS Sailing will arrange containers for boats to leave UK and Sweden around mid November 2015, returning mid March 2016. The cost of the boat transport will be heavily subsidised by sponsorship – see below.
The event will be 5 days racing with loads of socials. The entry fee will be approx. £100/€120, which again is heavily subsidised.
As well as local accommodation option, the club will canvass their yacht owners to find accommodation options on board right in the marina.
The event will be sponsored, and it is hoped that the sponsorship will cover a lot of the cost of transport in a container for the first 48 boats booked in the Championship. The maximum cost will be £500/€600/boat, but this could decrease by as much as 50%. The sponsorship will also subsidise the entry fee.
Booking for this event will open in late 2014. Priority will be given to sailors who have entered their 2014 National and/or World Championships.
