New RS200 Youth Squad for the North of England
RS200 Youth Squad for the North of England
We are pleased to publish details of a new RS200 Youth Squad aimed at sailors aged 14-22, with Adam Savage as squad coach. Organisier, Ercia Caswell explains
"There will be a selection weekend on October 17/18th at the Yorkshire Dales Sailing Club and 5 training weekends over the winter culminating in a Youth RS200 event at Easter. Participants will then be encouraged to join the northern RS200 circuit next summer.
I am developing this because I am aware that there is a 'gap' for youngsters in the North who have been in the junior Mirror/ Tera/ Feva/ Topper squads as to what they should do next. The RS200 is a boat that can be sailed by a relatively light crew and has a good racing scene in the north and there are lots of them about in clubs in the north. I have spoken to many youngsters, parents and coaches who all think it is a great idea.
Adam Savage is going to be the squad coach and Martin Penty the assistant coach. We have secured a moderate sponsorship deal with RS Sailing who will provide a discount on RS200 boats, sails and Magic Marine equipment and some coaching support from Frances Peters. It is envisaged their will be twelve boats in the squad."
