We are delighted to anounce that Jack Vincent has volunteered to join the RS200 committee as Youth Rep, working with our current Youth Rep, James Williams. It was Jack's idea to introduce the popular RS200 Youth Bibs this season. He sent this message to introduce himself:
"Hi I'm Jack, I'm 19 and from Sussex. I've been sailing the RS200 for 4 years now, Mount's Bay will be my 3rd Nationals. I have been a member of the West Sussex team and currently compete for Loughborough University as part of their team racing squad along side studying for my degree in aeronautical engineering. I am looking forward to meeting more people on my home circuit; SEAS and at this years Nationals!"
And for those that don't know James, here's his biography in one paragraph;
"I grew up in Suffolk and started sailing in my mid-teens, quickly moving from a Laser to the RS200. I've been in the class for about 8 years now, and have done a large range of circuit events along with 5 Nationals. Pleasing results in the lower wind range have generally been offset by an inability to sail upwind quickly in more than a gentle breeze, but at least I know where my main weakness lies! Like a few others in the class, I studied Ship Science at the University of Southampton, and I now work as a Naval Architect in Bath, allowing me to join the growing fleet at Chew Valley last year. I am 24, so not a "Youth" any more, but I remember some cracking Youth Champs when I was first getting in to the class."
Jack and James will be working to ensure all youths feel welcome at the Nationals, perhaps by hosting a youth social, representing the views of youths on the wider committee and helping to organise the Youth Championships which take place as part of the Inlands at Northampton on 1st/2nd Oct. If you are a youth sailor do contact them (via the contact page of the website) and share any ideas and views you have.
Thank you Jack and James!
