Results / Open Burghfield SC - 20/10/2012

The Burghfield RS200 Open was the penultimate event in the popular RS200 South East Area Series.  This Saturday proved that it is, as promoted, ‘a big deal’ and that sometimes a sailing event doesn’t need to be all about going racing.

I’m not sure if it was pure optimism, distrust of weather forecasters or just plain dedication that drove people to brave the morning fog on the M4.  Nonetheless nearly thirty boats arrived eager to go racing, only to find the lake eerily still.  The  race officer postponed for a couple of hours giving time for a boat tuning and set up seminar, a crewing Q&A session, tea drinking and socialising.

The wind filled in for a sunny lunch time briefing. Sadly, by the time 24 boats had gamely rigged, changed and gone afloat it died away to nothing again. The fleet returned to shore for well-deserved tea and home baked cakes.  The rum and new trophy remain un-won.

Don’t forget that the Inlands are at Rutland this coming weekend. This is shaping up to be a hotly contested event.  The South East Area Series end of season finale and prize giving tea is at Wembley SC in two weeks’ time; it promises to be one not to miss.

Thanks to all that made the journey.  Have a look at the photos from Saturday on Alex's website sportography.tv here: www.sportograhy.tv  Perfect tea drinking and cake day.
