Well, imagine my surprise that upon my return from an amazing week in Lake Garda I find five RS500s entered and ready for Stone sailing club's annual racing event, Stone week. One year ago I was the only RS500 at the club, but the fleet has been growing, and with a recent RS500 open event held at Stone it seems the boat is continuing to tempt more into having a go.
Over the week, a range of conditions saw some close racing and exciting finishes, especially as people began to get to grips with the boat. Everyone who sailed the boat fell in love with it, enjoying the fast downwind legs and tight upwind racing.
We are now looking forward to bringing a few boats from Stone down to the Nationals at Netley SC at the end of August.
We also have the Essex Dinghy Championships at Stone Sailing Club over the August bank holiday weekend. It's free to sail and free to camp, with a great social calendar also planned. It would be excellent to have some visiting RS500s there - why not use it as a practice event before the nationals!?
