RS500s in Genoa, Italy
Saturday started early with the first race at ten o'clock. We were almost incomplete because of the Dutch teams who loved partying the day before. Luckily it was really windy which made it possible for the sleepy teams to be on time at the starting area. Because of the wind it became a nice and heavy racing day. The first and most windy race started with a competitive upwind beat and ended up in a shifty klotsbak at the windward mark. Sailing downwind was a very interesting search for the gusts. Once you found some wind, it was a challenge not to end upside down and be part of the utter carnage after one round. Wind strength at the leeward mark was always 15 knots more then at the windward mark.
After three rounds, the first race became to a good end and the race committee decided to continue racing with two rounds a race to make it possible having four races in one day.
The wind went down a little bit and we could have three more proper races. The Italian teams did again a good job, unless they capsized a bit more than the day before. This gave the Dutch and British teams a good chance to enter the top five. Willemijn (AKA Dannie) NED965
