2012 has been a fantastic year with great events! I am really excited about the fact that our RS500 class is grown up as a mature class now! But a mature class doesn’t mean for me that we can stop looking ambitious to the future! 2013 must show that we are stable and attracting enough for all those sailors that haven’t experienced the joy of sailing and participating in RS500 events.
I'm ambitious for the future. Secretly, we hope to offer you a intercontinental event in 2014 or 2015. We are talking about the United States, China or the Caribbean. Wouldn’t it be great to organise a affordable trip, with your RS500 to a stunning place anywhere in the world during the cold winter? Events:
For 2013 we are organising some great events, in fantastic locations, in several countries in Europe, to make it attractive for all sailors. All details, including entry forms are at http://www.rs500.org/champs/champsindex.asp?fleet=RS500
French Skiff Open – Lac du Der (30 March – 1 April):
A multi-fleet Easter regatta in Champagne, France, under 4 hour drive from Calais. In central Europe. An exciting addition to RS500 programme, with a large coaching element at beginning of the season.
EuroCup Carnac (30 May – 2 June)
Carnac will host the RS Eurocup. Lots of RS-classes will be sailing here in the famous Bay of Quiberon! The Quiberon area is famous for ocean racing, trimaran-speed-records, Golf Surfing. It has hosted many Europeans and Worlds and has good & stable weather! But don't forget the French wines and the good food! Having this RS500 EuroCup in France will give the RS500 opportunity to grow in French as well. I look forward to meeting our french friends in our class. The local RS dealer, Nico, will enjoy the racing as well!
Worlds, Gottskar Sweden (5 – 9 August)
The RS500 World Championships 2013 will be hosted by Segelsallskapet Kaparen, Gottskar, Sweden.
I don’t have to say more! Just be there! The full social program, the beauifull country (people) and the races will just be great!
UK Nationals (24 – 26 August)
The UK Nationals will be hosted at Parkstone Yacht Club. This end of summer event will be open for all sailors, also from outside of the UK.
Open Dutch Skiff Trophy (14th & 15th Sept)
A good example of a great National event is the Open Dutch Skiff Trophy. It is a yearly event with all skiff Class like the 29er, 49er, moth, RS 100, RS Vareo, RS700, Musto Skiff, RS 800, Boss etc. etc.
The great venue of Aquavitesse in Bruinisse will host us again for good racing and having fun! Two days of racing and of course Richard & Marieke will organise us a BBQ!
The open dutch skiff trophy is becoming to be the biggest skiff event of Northern Europe.
SE EuroCup Lake Como Italy (4-6 October)
The final RS100/500 Euro Grand Prix for 2013 will be on wonderful Lake Como, Italy from 4-6 October. Perfect for those who need some late sun. The event is hosted by Circolo vela Bellano.
"HELP" Logistic Marketplace
Sailing a European Circuit will sometimes have some logistic problems. We all know!! As a class we will try to support you as much as possible with this. By setting up the "Logistic Marketplace" we will try to find inventive solutions such as using double and triple stackers (or even for 4 or 6). Let’s cut down stress and costs! Put your question on the facebook, twitter or Yahoogroup. Do you have something to offer, react on these questions for help!
International Committee
Further to the early 2012 re-organisation, each fleet should now have an International Management Committee. All members of the class may serve on the International Management Committee. We have not received any nominations yet and we are inviting everybody who likes to take part to let it know. If you would like to nominate yourself or anyone else, please do so before Christmas! Send an e-mail to [email protected] Organising the international class takes some effort. And to assure that we are doing the best for all sailors we need sailors to take part in the committee. We need your help to make it possible! That is good for the continuity of the class. Be a part of it!
