On the 500 WhatsApp group, Luke McEwen said
"We hugely enjoyed our first 500 worlds, it was indeed a seriously fun week.
Follonica was a really good venue launching off a sandy beach into turquoise water for a short sail to the race course, with the Tuscan hills and Elba as the backdrop.
Very good race management, other than waiting for the wind which faded after the first races on Wednesday and Thursday, but they got in 11 of the 14 scheduled races. Great close-fought racing and we learned loads through the week with helpful advice from the Brits and the Dutch sailors, as well as local knowledge from Gabriele and Giulia’s coach (once it was clear that we weren’t a title contender!).
The results were online by the time we got ashore and there were pizza and melon slices after racing. Plenty of friendly international banter at the parties; James Curtis was a brilliant games meister at the Dutch party on Thursday - his signature game of stress-pong might have been Ollie’s undoing.
Congratulations to Paul and Fresh for their silver medals!"
